Sideline Interference
Under the 2010 NFHS FB playing rules, this play must bring about a flag for Sideline Interference (9-8-3). If a player, coach or nonplayer is in the restricted zone while the ball is live but does not contact an official, a warning is issued for the first offense. The second instance results in a 5-yard penalty and the third offense results in a 15-yard penalty and ejection of the head coach. As you can see from this clip, personnel must be kept back as the HL has a difficult time covering the play and seeing the important elements of the play when ruling catch or no catch. Excellent judgment by the covering official of a catch.
