If you are interested in becoming an official and joining the SSOA, please follow the instructions below. A Regional Supervisor Of Officials will assign you to officiate games for each sport. Each sports link above contains vital information including the Regional Supervisor's name and contact information. If you have any questions, be sure to contact the appropriate Regional Supervisor for more information.
Here's what you need to do to get started. 1) A Valid Email Address An email is required to signup with SSOA and the DragonFly platform used by NCHSAA. The Regional Supervisor will then add you to DragonFly which is where where your game assignments and other officiating correspondance will be sent. If you currently don't have a professional email address, please create one. Officials are expected to be professional on and off the field or court! Email addresses that contain suggestive or inappropriate terms should never be used. You can signup for a free email account at Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or your Internet Service Provider.
2) Fill Out The SSOA Application Please fill out the SSOA application completely! Don't worry the form is secure.
3) Pay Your SSOA Membership Dues 3a) Pay your dues $20.00 by Zelle: Send SSOA dues payments thru Zelle to the following email address:

OR 3c) Lifetime Member - If you are a lifetime member, fill out the form and select "Lifetime Member" then submit the form. No further action is needed. *SSOA applications and membership fees are due by June 30th of each calendar year. SSOA Membership runs from July 1st to June 30th.
Once you decide the sport(s) you would like to officiate, please contact your Regional Supervisor! Make sure to contact them before registering with the NCHSAA. The Regional Supervisor will be able to give you information for upcoming clinics, scrimmages, and tell you where to obtain officiating equipment. The Regional Supervisors below are a part of the Southeastern Sports Officials Association and assign officials for the sports listed:
5) Register With The NCHSAA: If you have never registered with the NCHSAA, you will need to create an account HERE. The registration process is now done through the DragonFly Platform. When you select the sports you are interested in officiating, make sure to choose the correct Regional Supervisor Of Officials from the list. All SSOA Regional Supervisors are listed as "Southeastern". Refer to the list of supervisors above to ensure you have selected the correct supervisor. The NCHSAA registration fees vary from sport to sport and there is a required $31.00 insurance fee required for all officials. The insurance fee is only paid once per year, regardless of how many sports you choose to officiate. You may pay these fees online with a credit card or you can mail the NCHSAA a check to the address given on their website. If the NCHSAA has not received your check within 14 days of registration, it is subject to cancellation. Important: If you plan on registering for multiple sports now you must pay for all sports at the time you register. If you have unpaid fees the NCHSAA will make you ineligible to receive assignments until the remaining balance is paid. Be sure to check the NCHSAA website for registration deadlines for the sports you are interested in officiating.
6) Using The DragonFly Platform: NCHSAA Regional Supervisors use DragonFly assigning software. You are required to give your Regional Supervisor a valid email address so that they can add you to their DragonFly account. Remember to give your supervisor the same email address you used to register with NCHSAA and SSOA. (see instructions above) Once you are added, you will receive an email with instructions on how to proceed. Take a look at the links below to help you become familiar with the DragonFly Software. Many schools will pay through DragonFly and there is information here to help you set that up as well.
7) ArbiterSports Some Regional Supervisors may also use ArbiterSports to assign officials. An example is if they assign officials for organizations outside of NCHSAA (Fort Bragg, Parks & Rec, etc). If you desire to officiate at those locations, you would also be required to have a ArbiterSports account. Please consult with your Regional Supervisor for more information.
8) SSOA Website Resources To take advantage of all the resources on our website you will need PDF viewing software such as the Adobe Acrobat Reader. You will also need a Word and Powerpoint viewer on your computer, tablet, or smartphone if you dont have Microsoft Office. You will see links to download these for FREE at the top of our resources page.
